Fix Vanguard Errors in League of Legends: VAN-81
Hello, this is LifeSkills. If you are experiencing Vanguard errors like VAN-81, VAN-128, or VAN-135 in League of Legends, follow our comprehensive guide to resolve these issues effectively.
Introduction to Vanguard and Common Issues
A few months ago, a security program called Vanguard was implemented in League of Legends to block illegal programs like helpers. If this Vanguard security program is not executed before League of Legends or is altered, it will block further progress right after logging in.
Even though I haven’t used a helper or tampered with Vanguard, this error popup occurs, creating a difficult situation. This article can be helpful if reinstalling or rebooting doesn’t solve the problem.
The error code is Vanguard Error: VAN -81.
In the future, I will also post solutions for Vanguard errors: VAN -128, and VAN -135.
Step-by-Step Guide to Fix VAN-81
First, if this error pops up when running League of Legends, do not immediately close the game. Instead, proceed as follows:
Open Task Manager
- Press Ctrl + Shift + ESC to open the Task Manager.
- Click on the Services tab at the top and look for (vgc) among the names.
- Check if the status of the vgc service is Stopped.
Restart vgc Service
- If the vgc service is found and its status is Stopped, immediately close League of Legends.
- Reopen League of Legends and right-click on vgc in the Task Manager to click the Start button.
- Check for normal operation. If it works normally, it means that Vanguard was not running, so the League of Legends program generated a popup saying it cannot proceed without Vanguard.
- If vgc stops again during the loading process, try starting vgc more quickly when relaunching the game.
Set vgc Service to Run Automatically
- Now, let’s make the vgc service run automatically every time you start League of Legends.
- Right-click the vgc service and select Open Services.
- Find vgc again among the services, right-click it, and select Properties.
- Change the Startup type to Automatic and confirm.
- Reboot the computer and launch League of Legends again.
- Check if the VGC service is running in the Task Manager after rebooting and before launching League of Legends.
